What is LLM SEO?
LLM SEO is a shorthand term for optimizing your website so that large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google Gemini are more likely to surface, cite, or recommend your business in AI-generated answers.
It is used interchangeably with LLM Optimization, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and AI Search Optimization. The “SEO” framing is familiar to marketers coming from traditional search — but the underlying mechanics are meaningfully different.
Why “SEO” Is Only Part of the Picture
Traditional SEO focuses on ranking signals: backlinks, keyword density, page authority. LLM SEO focuses on trustworthiness and citability — whether an AI model has enough confidence in your content and entity to include you in a generated answer. Keyword stuffing won’t help. Structured, authoritative, clearly attributed content will.
